Village étape LABEL : A BRAND, A SET OF QUALITIES
THE LABEL IS AWARDED TO VILLAGES, WHICH SATISFY THE CRITERIA OF THE MINISTRY OF ECOLOGY. ALONG THE ROAD, USERS ARE INFORMED ABOUT THE PROXIMITY OF A VILLAGE BOASTING A “VILLAGE ÉTAPE’”LABEL.
The criteria : the acknowledged qualities :
For each village, securing the label is synonymous with adhering to a set of very strict criteria. The latter are particularly coherent with the notion of itinerary inherent to the label. The landscape and tourist merits of the village environment are essential.
A prime location :
– To be a maximum of 5 minutes or 5 kilometres away from an A road or toll-free motorway.
– To have a population of less than 5,000 inhabitants.
A genuine supply of services :
To offer traditional catering with a sufficient number of seats.
To provide top quality hotel and/or bed and breakfast accommodation and a campsite.
To have shops such as a bakery, grocer’s, butcher’s and newsagent’s, as well as a chemist’s, a garage, an ATM, etc.
High quality public facilities :
Access to shaded parking spaces, as well as a toilet block kitted out for persons with reduced mobility.
The provision of a zone to accommodate camper vans and a picnic area.
Lasting commitments :
The villages’ commitments in terms of sustainable development and accessability will also be taken into account.
Similarly, the village must be active in making improvements to the surroundings: floral displays, facilities, etc.
Exploration opportunities :
Have a tourist information point.
Benefit from hiking and/or historic monument trails.
Renewal of the label is not tacit. Every five years, a trial visit is required to check the village matches up to the conditions dictated by the original criteria for awarding the label.
