RN67 | Haute-Marne | Champagne-Ardenne

Following the erection of a castle overlooking the Marne valley shortly after the year 1000, a human settlement was created and arranged below.

And so the town of Joinville came into being and was further developed in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period by equipping itself with a fortified enclosure, a marketplace, a parish church, a justice auditorium and even a windmill.

It retains the picturesque nature of an historic town: narrow, winding streets, old houses and town houses… Though the medieval castle has gone, its site on the top of the hill offers breathtaking views across the town, the Grand-Jardin castle, the Marne valley and the surrounding countryside.
